Update from Munir Maniruzzaman

In the academic year 2008-09, Professor (Munir) AFM Maniruzzaman's (School of Law), two research students (Fahad Al Refaei and Faisal Al Beshar) successfully defended their PhDs and received their degrees.

Professor Maniruzzaman's speech (as a guest speaker) to the Annual Conference of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations held in Ankara earlier this year is being published as a major article under the title "The Issue of Resource Nationalism: Risk Engineering and Dispute Management in the Oil and Gas Industry" in the Fall issue (2009) of the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law (TJOGEL), published by the University of Texas School of Law, Austin, USA.

He will act as one of the members of the College of Arbitrators and Memorandum Judges for the Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition (FDI Moot) to be held in Frankfurt in October 2009. The Moot will be hosted by the German Institute of Arbitration (DIS), Cologne, Germany, organized by the Center for International Legal Studies, Salzburg, Austria and co-founded by Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts, Pepperdine University Law School, Malibu, California and Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law, University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland.

Professor Maniruzzaman will present a paper on 'Biofuels and Energy Security in International Law and Islamic Shariah Law & Siyar" as a speaker to the Inaugural International Workshop and Seminar on Siyar & Islamic State Practices in International Law (he will also chair one of its panels), organised by The National University of Malaysia (UKM), to be held in Kuala Lumpur in November 2009. He has joined the Civil Mediation Council (CMC), UK. as a member.
