Portsmouth Business School
How to apply for the DBA
The first step is to provide us with information about the topic you are considering for your DBA doctoral research. Portsmouth Business School offers a wide range of academic expertise and we will be able to provide suitable highly qualified DBA supervisors for most business research topics. Having found the best match between our expertise and your research interests, you will be able to plan well ahead giving you a head start in the taught phase of the DBA before you enter the research stage, for example when you refine your research ideas in the research proposal unit and the advanced research methods unit during the first year of your DBA.
In order to apply for our DBA programme, please complete the application form, which you can download or complete online. Portsmouth Business School has identified a list of subject areas where we are particularly interested in receiving applications from prospective DBA students. A list of these subject areas is contained in the research outline form that we are asking you to complete and send to us together with a copy of your CV and the completed application form..
Once we have received your postgraduate research application form and your research outline form, the DBA Course Director will review your application and your research outline. If your topic falls within the range of subjects that we have identified as of particular interest, there will normally be no problem in identifying a suitable supervisor. If your topic falls outside these subject areas or if there are questions about the nature of your research topic, the course director may contact you and ask for further information.
The course director will also review your application including the references that you should enclose (two references, one of which should be an academic reference) and, if you meet our admissions criteria, the course director will then arrange for a face-to face interview with you to complete the admissions process. Please note that we can conduct telephone interviews instead of face-to face interviews for non-UK based applicants, but we prefer face-to face interviews where feasible.
Please send your postgraduate research student application form and your research outline form to bus-pgrad@port.ac.uk
