Thesis summary

In the last decade, there has been a fundamental shift in the banking delivery channels, mainly due to the exploitation of the new communication and transaction channels, which are offered by the internet. Nowadays, E-banking is the most popular banking delivery channel all over the world.

For Greece, E-banking is a relatively new sector of e-finance and needs to be studied in more depth. Due to the fact that e-banking is new to customers and banks and the development of the internet is at its infancy stages, few studies have examined the e-banking adoption in Greece. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first PhD study that examines e-banking in Greece using modern quantitative methods.

The main objectives of this study are: i) to determine whether the provision of e-banking services from Greek banks generates additional profits and ii) to define the factors that contribute to this profitability. We shall employ several methods to measure the profitability of banks offering e-banking services. In addition, we shall investigate the adoption of e-banking from consumers and the banks themselves as well as the factors that influence the e-banking adoption in Greece.

The results of this research will be of great significance for banks because i) they will understand their customers' needs and concerns and ii) they will be able to improve the existing e-banking services they are offering.
