Thesis summary
My research is on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The work aims to identify the determinants of FDI at national and regional levels, using Thailand as its focus. For National FDI, the analysis is based on a panel dataset for a number of investing countries over the period 1970 - 2004. For the Regional FDI, the analysis explores and identifies the determinants of FDI, using provincial level data in Thailand, which is based on a panel dataset for 76 provinces over the period 1985 - 2005. After presenting the main theoretical contributions and previous work on FDI, the empirical work is unfolded. The methodology involves estimation of econometric models which provide a picture of the major determinants of FDI in Thailand. An important feature of the current study is that the assembled data, in particular the provincial - level data, is the first such source constructed to support regional econometric studies in Thailand.
