Portsmouth Business School
Marketing and Sales - our staff
Who we are
The Marketing and Sales Subject Group is dedicated to producing successful professionals in the fields of marketing, hospitality and sales. Through strong links with industry and professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Sales Leadership Alliance, we ensure that our courses are relevant and innovative. Our established undergraduate pathways are popular and we develop our portfolio to meet employers’ emerging needs, such as our new BA (Hons) Digital Marketing degree.
What we do
In addition to studying the discipline of marketing or hospitality in breadth and depth, undergraduate students are offered interesting options and the opportunity to undertake projects which either enable engagement with employers or form part of competitions, some of which are international. Recently a Portsmouth student reached the finals of the World Collegiate Sales Open in Chicago.
Courses encompass content guided by latest research and discussion of application and involve speakers from companies such as IBM, Philips, HP and B&Q. Our Visiting Professor, Neil Rackham, who has a worldwide profile as a researcher, author and conference speaker, advises the subject group and is also on the Advisory Board of Portsmouth Business School.
Our postgraduate courses are MA Marketing (full-time) and MA Digital Marketing (part-time). The full-time courses provide in-depth learning for students from other disciplines wishing to prepare for marketing careers. The part-time courses enable experienced professionals to consolidate their learning from experience and extend their potential within their profession. Most assessments incorporate work-based learning.
Reputation and Research
Academic staff within the subject group are involved in conducting research in their specialist fields, including corporate branding, consumer behaviour online, the internationalisation of small businesses, sales resourcing and advertising in the Middle East. Staff engage with local and international businesses through applied research projects and delivering executive education, and with local voluntary bodies and social enterprises. Our research and engagement with industry underpins our curriculum and will inform our on-going development.
