Pre and Post Unit Assessment Board Management

 

Course Duration:  

Half Day

 

Course Aims:                                    

To introduce the user to the concepts and processes relating to the preparation for a Unit Assessment Board (UAB). 

To provide the user with a functional understanding of the screens associated with recording Unit Assessment Board (UAB) decisions, calculating Units and analysing data on all UAB reports.

 

Course Pre-requisites:

  • Successful completion of Assessment Marks Entry and Calculation training
  • An awareness of the appropriate documentation, as required by the Academic Regulations, to be presented to the UAB
  • An understanding of the University’s Unit Assessment Board (UAB) and general assessment regulations

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course the User will be:

  • Able to create a new Unit Assessment Board in Student Records, and understand the circumstances in which this is required
  • Able to roll Unit Assessment Boards from the previous year and undertake relevant maintenance/validation to ensure all units are present and correctly attached
  • Aware of the Exam Board structures on the Student and Course Managment System and competent in their maintenance, e.g. maintaining exam board meeting dates, linking and unlinking units to specific Exam Board meetings
  • Aware of how the Student Records unit assessment calculator works
  • Competent in the calculation of unit assessments including an awareness of the impact on the information displayed on MyPort
  • Aware of the 3 available UAB reports (including the differences between draft and actual) and competent in their production 
  • Competent in the use of the reports for validation including the management of Repeat student's statuses and updating Coursework-Valid EC unit status to ‘Unit Result Pending’
  • Able to correct artefact marks, after the unit assessment has been calculated, and subsequently recalculate the unit.
  • Aware of the correct order in which to record UAB decisions
  • Competent in recording UAB changes at artefact level, i.e. amending an Artefact mark
  • Competent in recording UAB changes at unit level, i.e. applying moderation awarded by the UAB
  • Competent in confirming the unit on a UAB allowing for the confirmation of marks on MyPort 
  • Able to process post UAB decisions authorised under Chair’s Action

Full day

 

Course Aims:

To introduce the user to the validation tools and processes associated with the preparation for a Board of Examiners (BOE). To provide the user with a functional understanding of the screens associated with preparing for a BOE. The session will also provide the user with a functional understanding of the screens associated with recording Board of Examiner (BOE) decisions.

 

Course Pre-requisites

  • Successfully completed the Pre and Post UAB course
  • An understanding of the University’s Board of Examiners (BOE) and general assessment regulations

 

Course Objectives

By the end of the course the User will be:

  • Aware of the relationship between progression decisions and award decisions and when they are required 
  • Aware of the Exam Board structures on the Student and Course Managment System and competent in their maintenance, e.g. the difference between first sitting, second sitting and award sitting meetings, maintaining exam board meeting dates, linking and unlinking course instances to specific Exam Board meetings
  • Aware of the use of materialised views in relation to reporting and the delay this introduces to the inclusion of data on reports
  • In relation to the BOE calculators:
         • aware of the difference between the progression and the award calculators
         • competent in the running of each calculator
         • aware of which students will / won’t have decisions derived by the calculators
  • Competent in the manual recording of progression decisions for students on Part Time courses thus enabling award decisions to be derived using the calculator
  • Competent in the production of checking reports to assist in the validation of the data pre BOE, and formal reports to present to the BOE.
  • Aware of what information has / has not been derived by the calculators 
  • Able to make the relevant unit level changes where a repeat has been imposed or compensation has been awarded
  • Competent in recording and amending progression decisions where appropriate, e.g. withdrawn students, students on part time courses
  • Able to create Award Assessment records where the award calculator was unable to
  • Competent in the recording and amending of Award Classification decisions where appropriate, e.g. withdrawn students, students on part time courses
  • Competent in the management of notes for parchment holding purposes
  • Competent in recording appropriate Named Awards
  • Competent in the production of reports to validate data input prior to confirmation
  • Competent in confirmation of the course instance against a BOE allowing for the confirmation of results on MyPort
  • Aware of the requirement to roll students with pass deferrals manually and competent in rolling both individual students and courses instances to the second sitting
  • Able to process post  BOE decisions authorised under Chair’s Actions
