Memoranda Guidance, Processes and Approval Forms
Articulation or General Advanced Standing with a Recognised Awarding Organisation (RAO)
Articulation is the formalisation of an advanced standing arrangement into a specific agreement between UoP and a PI. This arrangement with the partner is covered by a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). Provided the student has met the conditions laid down in the MoA, they have an automatic right of direct entry to the articulated programme at the UoP with transfer of HE credit from the PI to UoP into the appropriate level (5 or 6) as described in the MoA. The partner and UoP curricula are carefully mapped in order to assess that the study undertaken at the PI is equivalent (level and volume) to that at UoP, and enables the automatic transfer of HE credit to take place upon successful completion of the PI’s programme.
General Advanced Standing with a Recognised Awarding Organisation
This form of advanced standing arrangement is somewhat hybrid, due to the fact that it is not possible for UoP to quality assure the individual centres, for example Pearson (formerly Edexcel), EF (Education First), SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority), as there may be hundreds of licensed centres delivering the same qualification, and so guaranteed entry to UoP is not possible. Each student is considered for admission to UoP on a case-by-case basis through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL, formerly known as APL/APEL) assessment. Since the PI students are likely to have studied the same curriculum / qualification wherever they issue from, thorough curriculum mapping is undertaken between the PI programmes and those at UoP in order to facilitate the RPL assessment.
Please note: Advanced Standing arrangements with a partner who is not a Recognised Awarding Organisation are covered by the Cooperation + RPL arrangement, please see here for details.
