Academic Registry
Periodic Collaborative Review
The review process for collaborative programmes follows the home-based Periodic Review policy and processes, with additional elements and flexibility to fully consider the partnership arrangement. The review process comprises of two elements, Periodic Collaborative Programme Review and Periodic Collaborative Partnership Review
Periodic Collaborative Programme Review
The purpose, scope and outcomes of Periodic Collaborative Programme Review are the same as that for home-based programmes. All collaborative programmes, no matter the academic type of programme, are to participate in a Periodic Collaborative Programme Review on a six yearly cycle. The scheduling of the review may be brought forward if there are any causes for concern with the curriculum and/or student experience or if there are benefits to the Partner Institution and/or the University in scheduling the review alongside other University programmes, combining with PSRB events, or with other partnerships.
A common model for franchised collaborative programmes is to combine the Periodic Collaborative Programme Review with the home equivalent programme Periodic Review. Alternatively, flexibility and economies of scale may be achieved for the partner and the University by combining the Periodic Collaborative Programme Review and the Periodic Collaborative Partnership Review into a single review event. This model is often the preferred one for validated external arrangements and where there are a number of collaborative programmes offered at a single Partner Institution.
Periodic Collaborative Partnership Review
The purpose and scope of the Periodic Partnership Review is to consider the partnership arrangement and the student experience in its totality and the intended outcome is to approve the partnership arrangement for a further period of three years. All collaborative partnerships, no matter the partnership type of arrangement, are to participate in a Periodic Collaborative Partnership Review on a three yearly cycle. The scheduling of the review may be brought forward if there is evidence to suggest there is a need to review sooner. Exceptionally, for long standing well established partnerships, where there is strong evidence that confirms appropriate standards and robustness of quality of programme and student experience, the review may be extended to six yearly. A decision to extend a review cycle would be made based on evidence which included a risk assessment exercise and approval by Quality Assurance Committee.
The Collaborative Programmes Office maintain a register of collaborative reviews and organises the reivews in liaison with the relevant Faculty and Department. Within the review process, the University aims to achieve an appropriate level of flexibility and proportionality when scheduling and conducting reviews of collaborative programmes and partnerships.
Details of the review process and procedures can be found on the reviewcycle webpage.
