The Research Degrees Section is responsible for the registration and assessment of Postgraduate Research Students (PGRS) and its quality assurance arrangements.

Within these pages you will find all the key information that all Postgraduate Research Students (PGRS) and Professional Doctorates - Stage 2 Part 2 (PD) students, supervisors and administrators need.

Full details on the extensive research programmes available can be found here.  This site also provides links to other information covering degree options, duration and support available.  Please see our How to Apply pages if you would like to find out details of entry requirements and all the documents required as part of an application.

All of our Research Programmes have two intakes each academic year of either October or February.

On commencement of their studies PGRS will be required to attend the Induction Programme.  This has been set up specifically to introduce PGRS to getting started on their research programme, and covers key features of Postgraduate Research at the University of Portsmouth such as resources, support and our Graduate School.

Each year PGRS are required to register on their chosen programme and ensure that tuition fees are paid or appropriate arrangements are made if paying by direct debit or a sponsorship/bursary had been given.  The Local Research Administrator will arrange for their students to be registered at the appropriate time of year.

Within the Forms section, you can access all the relevant forms to be used for PGRS and PD students and their supervisors, along with some guidance on what the form is for and when it would need to be used.

Our Useful Information section gives details and links to our regulations and other key documents.

If you need any further information or advice regarding the administration of PGRS and PD students please contact a member of the Research Section Team on researchdegrees@port.ac.uk
