PGR Bursaries

Some faculties may offer funding for research student bursary awards which pay the fees and provide a maintenance award for registered full-time PhD research students. These awards are sometimes linked to specific research projects and are offered after a competitive interview process.  For details of any current opportunities please see our Graduate School Funding page. The University Research Committee confirms the amount for bursary awards each year in line with the recommendation by Research Councils UK (RCUK).

The procedures and the latest forms required for a PGRS who is/will be in receipt of a Research Student Bursary Award are available below.  If you have any questions regarding the details please contact the Research Section, Academic Registry or speak with your local Faculty Finance Manager.

Bursaries payment are initially requested for full time PGRS for 3 years, in line with the normal registration period for a PhD and are normally tenable for one year and confirmed annually subject to satisfactory progress and continued registration, as detailed in the Bursary Agreement.  Where funding is part of a 

Where funding allows, then a continuation of payment can be requested beyond the 3 year, using the form below.  In addition, approval for an extension periods would need to be sort by completing a Extension Request Form - UPR12.  Please see the Forms - Student Administration Section.
