Committee Structures
Overseeing all aspects of our Research Degree Programmes we have both a committee and operational group structure.
At the committee level we have the University Research Degree Committee (URDC) which meets at least three times each adacemic year and reports to Academic Council. Through the link above you can read the Consitution, Membership and Terms of Reference for URDC and see the latest Agenda Papers and Minutes.
Local Faculty Research Degree Committees FRDC also meet at least three times a year and feed into URDC. For the generic Terms of Reference, please see below.
The operational groups are the Graduate School Management Board (GSMB) and Professional and Integrated Doctorate Operational Group (PIDOG) which look at the more general operational aspects of Research Degrees and the Graduate School Development Programme (GSDP).
If you would like to read the latest minutes from theses committees or groups please see the Graduate School's mintues page.

Location of Study, including Work Based and Placement Learning
Where a PGRS is undertaking research which is not based at the University consideration needs to be giving regarding the environment and support available during this time. Potential situations where this would require further action are:
- Part Time students who are undertaking their research at their place of work
- PGRS who are drawing on resources and/or support of a third part for more than 5 days (40 hours) in one academic year
- PGRS who are undertaking research outside of the University but does not involved a third party
For full details please see the Work Based and Placement Learning page for guidance and forms for Research Degrees.
If you have any questions regarding Work Based and Placement Learning or Collaborative Research Programmes please contact Kay Underhay or one of the Research Section Team.
Quality Management and Periodic Reviews
