Alumni Launch Event

Over 100 former students attended our first alumni networking event to celebrate its launch on Thursday 28 October.  Graduates of all ages packed out the Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays to meet with old classmates and lecturers for a successful night of networking and socialising.

The event was held from 6-8pm so that people could drop in after work to enjoy a drink and buffet whilst mingling with fellow alumni.  In attendance was Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Craven who welcomed everyone to the launch of the alumni association and said “we strongly believe that graduates should still feel part of the community here, even after completing their studies…”  Deputy Vice Chancellor, Rebecca Bunting and our Dean of Creative and Cultural Industries, Simon Claridge also spoke about the University’s investment in our employability department and its plans to make Portsmouth a hub of creativity on the south coast.

The event was enjoyed by many and we have had some really positive feedback.  Former student Chris Rogers who graduated in 1968 and now runs his own successful communications business said:

“It’s been 42 years since I graduated from what was once the Portsmouth College of Technology and it’s great to come back. I have enjoyed a very successful career over the years, which is largely due to the wonderful experience I had studying at Portsmouth. …The city feels so young and vibrant now and I was bowled over by how much the University has expanded since I left. This reunion event was pitched just right – sharing real-life work experiences with current students is incredibly important and now that I have more time I am looking forward to giving something back to the University that gave me such strong foundations.”

Thank you to everyone who attended and look out for details of our next event which will take place in London during the Spring of 2011.
