Around 80 former students based in London came along to our first ever drinks reception in the capital. Hosted by the alumni association at the Slug and Lettuce, County Hall, the event was open to any graduates of the University of Portsmouth who wanted to come along.

The event was very informal, allowing students from many years and courses to mingle and share their memories of their time at the University. Attendees received a complimentary drink from the alumni association, and stayed for the two-hour event to chat amongst themselves.

Vicky Hodson, Alumni Relations Officer at the University of Portsmouth said: "We were really pleased so many of our alumni association members living in London wanted to come along to say hello to us. Everyone seemed to enjoy talking about their time living in Portsmouth, and meeting people who'd shared that experience. We're hoping to host more of these kind of events in the future, as well as some more formal receptions."

Anthony Hughes, who studied the Diploma of Management Studies with us in 1987-88, said: "Thank you, I enjoyed the drinks evening and it gave me an excuse to visit the capital! I'm looking forward to future events, and to hearing from the alumni association about tracking down some former friends."

The event proved to be very popular - so many people booked on to the event that it had to be moved from its original location at the Fire Station pub, near Waterloo. The alumni association sent emails about the change to all registered guests, posted this news on our Facebook page and on the University website, as well as sending staff round to the Fire Station on the night, so we hope all of you managed to find us at the Slug and Lettuce! Please let us know if you had any problems with the change of venue by emailing alumni@port.ac.uk .

Keep checking our webpages for information about events coming up in the autumn and winter - we'll post news as soon as we can! Don't forget to join our Facebook page for regular updates from the alumni association too.
