The first major alumni event for former MBA students from around the world was recently held at the Portsmouth Business School.

MBA alumni, current and prospective students, and staff attended the event, which included a guest presentation from Martyn Phillips, CEO of B&Q for the UK and Ireland.

Mr Phillips stressed the importance of postgraduate education if employees want to realise their full potential. He said: “In senior leadership positions it’s crucial to have had some sort of postgraduate management qualification training – I certainly have and most of the rest of my board have.”

The Portsmouth MBA boasts an alumni network stretching across the world. Former students are given the opportunity to come back for MBA masterclasses, which cover a range of topical issues faced by today’s professional managers, and other Business School events.

Professor Gioia Pescetto, Dean of Portsmouth Business School, said: “We strongly believe that graduates should maintain a connection with the Business School even after they have completed their studies.

“Current students on the Portsmouth MBA often highlight how valuable it is to be surrounded by fellow professionals who provide a wealth of knowledge and experience. We want alumni to continue to gain from these links and hosting an MBA alumni event is the ideal way of keeping them connected.”

As a registered member of the alumni association, graduates are able to search and message fellow classmates, receive an annual magazine and access some exclusive benefits.
