Greek alumni reunite in Athens

Over 100 alumni and guests gathered at the first official Greek alumni event in Athens at the end of March.
Held at an arts centre in the heart of the Greek capital, the event was organised by the University’s International Office and the University’s Alumni Association.
International Marketing Officer Marianthi Dalkidou, who hosted the evening, was quite overwhelmed by the turnout.
She said: “It was wonderful to see former students sharing stories about their time at Portsmouth and taking pride in their professional successes. A number of them have substantial roles in government, investment and banking organisations or are running their own successful companies. All haved fond memories of their time in Portsmouth and were very appreciative of having the opportunity to meet again.”
Former student Dionissis Zervas, who completed the MSc Communication Systems Engineering in 1996, said: “It was such a pleasure to have the University of Portsmouth host us in Athens. I was able to see some old friends and recall our unforgettable student days in Portsmouth. I would like to thank the University for bringing us together but also giving us the opportunity to network.”
Nearly half of the guests had graduated back in the late 90s and were keen to hear how the University and city has grown since. There were even two former Portsmouth Polytechnic graduates from 1988. Portsmouth has been a popular choice for Greek students over the past 15 years, with several thousand considering the institution as their alma mater.
