Polytechnic students return to Portsmouth

Former Portsmouth Polytechnic students gathered on campus at the start of December for the first Polytechnic alumni reunion.
The alumni were taken on walking tours of the University by current students, before congregating for mulled wine and Christmas nibbles in the Dennis Sciama Building.
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Craven came along to the event and said he very much enjoyed meeting the visitors, and was grateful to those who had come back to the city.
Former Geography student Sue Garnett who graduated in 1977 said: “I want to say a big thank you for a very good event on Saturday. It was very interesting and lovely to meet students old and new! Thank you for the catering and warm welcome.”
Kevin and Sophie from the alumni team were delighted to meet former students, some of whom hadn’t been back to the city in over 30 years.
Alumni relations officer Sophie said: “Alumni drove down from all over the UK to attend the event so we were very appreciative of the efforts people had gone to. Although the numbers were low, we think the event was a real success and it was lovely to hear former students reminiscing about their time at the Poly.
“The University of Portsmouth Alumni Association is still relatively new and we are always on the hunt for over 100,000 of our ‘lost’ alumni. We’d love to connect with more of our former students so please do continue to spread the word and ask people to register at www.port.ac.uk/alumni/register. The more word gets out, the more likely we are to have bigger and better events.”
