Classroom response systems (also known as audience response systems or personal response systems) are an effective way for you to interact with your audience. Some departments use TurningPoint “clicker-based” systems. Clickers work very well, but they are expensive to purchase and difficult to maintain from a logisitical point of view. However, staff who want to try classroom response systems have access to AllTheVotes, a system that makes use of students' own devices.

What is Allthevotes?

AllTheVotes is a web-based response system. Staff log in to the system and then either create a question “on-the-fly” or else use a pre-existing bank of questions. Students can answer the questions either via a browser (on their laptop, tablet or smartphone) or SMS text. Student responses are immediately shown on the screen. Several question types are supported, including multiple choice, true/false and Likert scale.

Who is it for?

AllTheVotes is available for staff who want to use a simple classroom response system.

Why should I be using it?

Several studies have shown that classroom response systems can increase student interactivity and levels of interest within a lecture. They can also be a useful way of determining the level of knowledge of the members of a class, and thus help you decide how best to proceed with a particular lecture.
