Training, help and support
The TEL team offer a range of training activities and resources to help academic staff familiarise themselves with supported online learning. If you are experiencing any issues in setting up or using elearning technologies you can also contact the TEL team via email (elearn@port.ac.uk) or phone on 023 9284 3355.
Provision covers the University’s virtual learning environment, assessment tools, web conferencing and lecture capture tools and take the form of:
Training sessions
The TEL team offer training sessions in the following software:
- Moodle
- Big Blue Button (BBB)
- Turnitin

Training guides and tutorials
If you require Moodle support but can’t get to a training session then log onto Moodle (moodle.port.ac.uk) and visit our ‘Help Sites’. There you will find a variety of step-by-step guides and video tutorials to get you started in Moodle. For advice on how to use other University implemented elearning technologies visit the ‘Technologies we can advise on’ section and select the technology you want to learn more about.
Online learning resources (Epigeum)
The Epigeum online learning resources are aimed at staff who want to use learning technologies effectively. They are also useful for teams who are designing online programmes.
The seven Epigeum modules contain many interactive exercises and case studies from around the world, and are the equivalent of about 30 hours of workshops!
The programme contains the following topics:
- Module 1 - Introduction to Learning Technologies
- Module 2 - Course Planning
- Module 3 - Developing Course Content
- Module 4 - The Effective Use of VLEs
- Module 5 - e-Assessment
- Module 6 - Internet Based Collaboration Tools
- Module 7 - Teaching with Learning Technologies
To access these resources you will either need to be using a computer on campus or, if you are off-site, you will need to setup your browser to use the University web proxy.
