APEX Foundation Pathway‌

The Foundation Pathway provides the initial professional development towards Descriptor 1 of the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in Higher Education (UKPSF) and consists of different flexible and individualised routes for various categories of staff to enable them to meet their teaching responsibilities. Currently we offer the Graduate Students Professional Development (GPROF) route within this pathway. We expect to offer an online Associate Lecturer Professional Development (ALPROF) route for September 2013.

Graduate Students Professional Development (GPROF)

The GPROF route is mandatory for postgraduate students who are involved in any teaching activity and work as demonstrators and tutors. Postgraduate students are permitted to teach, after they have attended the GPROF induction session and completed their action plans, and as long as they are either engaged in or have completed the programme.

Delivery of the programme

GPROF provides graduates who teach with a flexible programme to meet disciplinary and role-based needs. There are two intakes a year - October and February. It should take a maximum of 6 months and participants who complete it successfully are awarded a certificate.

Attending GPROF

Postgraduate students who wish to participate in GPROF should complete the application form and ask their department to sign the document, indicating their consent. Completion of GPROF requires attendance at an induction session, attendance at a minimum of three workshops offered as part of the DCQE events programme, a peer observation or micro teaching session and a professional interview.

GPROF starting dates for 2013 - 14

The next orientation sessions for the 2013-2014 academic year will run on 8th Oct 2013 and 11th Feb 2014.

Applications are required 2 weeks before the start date.
