Tonguefreed largeTonguefreed - Creative Writing in a Foreign Language (CWFL)
(School of Languages and Area Studies (SLAS))

The project...

Creating a publication to showcase the CWFL project where students had to write creatively in a foreign language.

What we did...

  • Worked closely with Elizabeth Maldonado and the team at SLAS to conceive the presentation and format of the publication.
  • Took the lead in:
    • designing the publication;
    • copyediting and proofreading submissions from both students and the course team; and
    • working with colleagues in Printing and Design Services to ensure timely production and delivery of all printed materials to tight deadlines and within budgetary constraints.

The result...

Since its inaugural publication in 2007, Tonguefreed has continued to be an important component of the CWFL project as it gives students the opportunity to use foreign languages - or tongues - in a way that is empowering, engaging and creatively communicative.

Testimonial...

In keeping with the ethos of the CWFL project, Elizabeth has kindly provided a few words about her experience of working with us in both English and Spanish.

English version

Working with the DCQE department has been a pleasure. They have not only produced our Creative Writing in a Foreign Language publications in an efficient, creative and professional manner but have also understood our needs, and, very importantly, what we wanted to achieve with the publications: a distinctive design that would reflect the ethos of our project. We consider ourselves lucky to be able to continue working with them.
