What is a Portfolio?

Literally, a portfolio is a case for carrying around loose documents and papers. At University, a portfolio is your collection of materials, work, assessments and achievements that you build up during your time at University.

Why do I need a Portfolio?

A portfolio is a good thing to have when you are looking for a job, either during a placement year, or after University. Potential employers will often ask to see examples of your work to help them decide whether you have the skills and experience they are looking for.

A University portfolio might also be used for a specific piece of coursework assessment.

Why do I have an 'e'Portfolio?

An electronic portfolio, or ePortfolio, is a portfolio that is online. This means that wherever you have an Internet connection, you will be able to view and add to your portfolio online. It means you don't have to carry around a heavy case all the time! Also, as many of your course materials are in the Virtual Learning Environment, Victory, which is also online, you will be able to easily transfer activities that you have completed from Victory into your own portfolio. This makes it very quick and simple to create a good portfolio. Here is a short animation about what an ePortfolio can be used for.

How will I show people my ePortfolio?

You are in charge of your own portfolio, and you can allow other people to access it. No-one will be able to look at your portfolio unless you allow them to. You can allow access to your lecturers and friends within the University, but can also create accounts for people outside the institution, so this might include prospective employers. The ePortfolio system will give you a website address for people to access your portfolio. All you need to do is allow people access and give them the address!

How do I access my ePortfolio?

You will be able to get to your ePortfolio from within the Victory Virtual Learning Environment. Once you have logged into Victory at www.port.ac.uk/victory, you will see three tabs at the top of the first page. One of these says Portfolios. Click on this Portfolios tab to see any ePortfolios you have access to. This will include your own ePortfolio, plus any of your friends ePortfolios that you have been given access to.

How do I add things into my ePortfolio?

See the support page for help with building your ePortfolio.
