Diversity Week 2013 - One University Many Cultures
Diversity week 2013, 25th Febuary-1st March is the chance for University staff and students to celebrate our diversity and discover more about each other. Previous events have looked to inspire, inform, entertain and spark debate, and 2013's celebrations promise to be bigger than ever. On top of that, everyone in the University – both staff and students – are invited to join in!

We are looking for photographers, writers, filmmakers, artists and anyone interested in Diversity issues who would be interested in contributing to the University's Diversity Week 2013 celebrations.

Events this year include:
- Diversity photographer of the year. Two themes exploring "diversity" and "women in science". Full details on the competition Facebook page. Throughout the week come and view the entries and vote for your favorite. Library Atrium.
- Lunch-"try somthing different" - During the week chefs specials in St Andrews and 3rd Space canteens celebrate the diversity of world food with recipes provided by staff and students. Submit your suggestions on the Facebook group uopmeltingpot.
- BME role model photography exhibition. Exhibition of potraits of BME people who excel in their field. David Ward, senior lecture in marketing at the University, uses images to explore the concept of what a role model is, with the aim to encourage all students to broaden their horizons as to potential careers once they have completed their education. On display in 3rd Space throughout the week.
- Carers Unite! - An opportunity for students and staff carers, or those who want to know more, to find out about support available in the city and speak to representatives from Portsmouth Carers Centre and Portsmouth Parents Voice. 25th Feb 1pm-2:30pm, UPSU meeting room 2.
- LGBT event - Gay Women-A personal view of experiences from two inspirational women speakers. This joint event with Portsmouth City Council is open to staff, students and the community. 12th Feb, Civvic Offices, Guildhall Square, 6pm-7:30pm.
- Around the World In A Day - International students invite you to celebrate, experience and learn more about their cultures. Enjoy dance, arts&crafts, music and food from around the world. 27th Feb, Atrium, Portland Building, 6pm-8pm.
- Intercontinental 5-a-side football and badminton tournament. UK and International students come together for a friendly knockout competition. Badminton 27th Feb,1-2pm, Football 28th Feb, 2-4:30pm at the Spinnaker sports hall. To sign up contact sarah.taylor@port.ac.uk
- Mental Health Awareness - 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem during our lifetime. Find out more from NHS Solent about mental health support services that are available in the city. 28th Feb, Library Atrium, 10am-2pm.

- Canine Partners Demonstration with Dogs - Meet Zebedee the dog and see all the wonderful things that he does to assist people. 3rd Space, 25th Feb, 2-3pm.
- Sight Awareness Challenges - Complete an obstacle course, and test your own sense of touch. 25th Feb, 3rd Space, 3pm-4pm.
- Austrian Culture & Food - Do you think only of the Sound of Music and the Von Trapp Family when you think of Austria? Come and find out about its varied culture and food. You can even taste some of the delicacies of Austria. 26th Feb, 3rd Space, 3pm-5pm, 28th Feb, 3rd Space, 1pm-3pm.
- Wheelchair Basketball - Challenge yourself and enjoy playing a game of wheelchair Basketball. Learn the skills needed to be successful, and increase your understanding of disability sport. Space is limited so book here. 28th Feb, Spinnaker Sports Hall, 9am-11am and 1pm-2pm.
- Traditions of Saudi Arabia - organised by the Saudi Society, includes dance , food and refreshments. 1st Mar, UPSU Meeting Room 1, 5pm-7pm
