Waste Management

In terms of the environmental policy and waste management, The University of Portsmouth is committed towards continuous improvement with reducing the amount of waste material going direct to landfill.

General Waste

As from August 2005, in partnership with other Southern universities, a generic agreement came into force to provide a reduction of general waste.

It was to this end that all waste receptacles were "chipped and pinned". Through this course of action, accurate information could be collated and from this data, high producers of waste material could be identified and actions taken to try and reduce the levels of waste accumulated.

Recycling

Materials currently recycled within the University are as follows:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Glass
  • Metal
  • Toner Cartridges
  • Electronic/IT Equipment (as per WEEE Directive)

Campus Environment are continually looking for ways to improve the service which we give and enhance our local environment.
