Am I insured by the University for my trip?

Does the travel insurance policy cover students?

Yes – the policy automatically covers all staff and students whilst on authorised overseas trips .

Students on exchange or placement overseas should be directed to the International Offices web-site and asked to complete the Online Permission to Travel Form.  This page includes details of the University Insurance arrangements.

Students on Fieldwork - The fieldwork organiser is responsible for providing all fieldwork participants with details of the University Insurance arrangements.

 Which countries are not covered by the University Travel Insurance.

The University insurance excludes visits to Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq (with the exception of Kurdistan), Yemen, Niger Delta and Niger. 
 
Although the University travel insurance can cover trips to other countries, please remember that VCE approval will be required for all travel to higher risk destinations and build this into your planning time.
 

Is there a maximum duration for any one trip?

Yes - 12 Months

How can I get an insurance letter for my visa application?

Please contact the University Insurance Officer who will be able to issue this.  You will need to provide your name as stated in your passport, destination, departure and return dates.

 How do I make a claim?

It is essential that the insurer Emergency Helpline  is called immediately in the event of a medical or non-medical emergency.  Failure to do this could invalidate your insurance.

 Upon return to the UK please complete and return the relevant claim form (using the link below) with supporting documentation to the University Insurance Officer.  Scanned copies are acceptable.

If your claim relates to loss of personal effects/money and you have departed after  1 August 2012, please call Chartis directly on 0207 359 3433, who wil usually settle your claim over the telephone.
