Health and Safety Co-ordinators

It is the aim of the University to have a Health & Safety Co-ordinator in each building / department.  As a vacancy arises, departments ask members of staff to express their interest in the role.  A shortened application form is completed by the potential candidates and the department decides on the most appropriate candidate.  Informal interviews can be held in conjunction with the Health & Safety Office if required.  The department then advises the Health & Safety Office who send out a letter of appointment and liaise with HR Services, regarding the payment of a small annual allowance.

There are four levels of the Health & Safety Co-ordinator allowance.  These are allocated on a role by role basis depending on amount of time spent, responsibility and level of health & safety risk within the department. It is also possible for two members of staff to share the role and therefore the allowance. The rates as of 21.03.2016 are:

H&S1                 £347.00 per annum
H&S2                 £528.00 per annum
H&S2@50%       £263.00 per annum
H&S3                 £901.00 per annum
H&S3@50%       £451.00 per annum
H&S4                 £612.00 per annum

New Health & Safety Co-ordinators will visit the Health & Safety Office for an informal chat to find out more about the role and the training and support that is available.  The Health & Safety Office also organise networking and update events, including an Annual Conference.
