As of 1st October 2013, these regualtions have been amended, removing the requirement for HSE to approve first aid training and qualifications.
The Health and Safety Office have updated the First Aid Policy to reflect all the changes; we will continue to use a standardised list of approved first aid trainers and we remind first aiders that they must re-certify before their certificate expires.
The Health & Safety Office has circulated the guidance document to relevant departments and has liaised with them regarding action required for implementation across the relevant departments within the University.
The Health and Safety Office is currently reviewing the Accident Reporting policy to reflect these changes and aim to have this published by March 2014.
The ERRA received Royal Assent on 25 April 2013. Section 69 ERRA fulfils the Government’s commitment in respect of strict duties by amending section 47(2) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA) with the effect that there will be no right to bring a claim for breach of statutory duty in relation to breaches of health and safety regulations. In future claimants will only be able to bring claims in negligence.
In December 2013, the HSE combined five pieces of health and safety guidance to help employers easily understand how to protect their workers from dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres.
