NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
The Health and Safety Office in partnership with The University of Chichester, runs NEBOSH Courses. These are globally-recognised, vocationally-related qualifications designed to meet the health, safety, environmental and risk management needs of all places of work in both the private and public sectors.
Course Programme
Fire Safety Management and Risk Assessment Certificate - This will run as a day release course over 6 weeks, beginning Friday 3 May 2013 at the University of Portsmouth. The Examination will be on Friday 14 June 2013.
This course leads to a qualification for those with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace and should be attended by Managers and supervisory staff who need to ensure that their organisation meets its responsibilities under fire safety legislation. The course should equip holders to carry out fire risk assessments of most low risk workplaces and identify the range of fire protective and preventative measures required. Candidates would also need to complete the first paper of the General Certificate (NGC1) to obtain the full qualification.

National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety - This course is proposed to run as a day release course running from Sept - Dec 2013, on Thursdays.
The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate is aimed at Supervisors, Managers and CDM co-ordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely. It is likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management of buildings who may need to ensure that contractors are working safely

National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
It is especially beneficial to Health & Safety Co-ordinators, managers, supervisors and staff who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues. The certificate helps staff manage risks effectively. Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview and is a sound basis for further professional study. The cost to your department will be £250.00 for registration and supply of the NEBOSH Introduction to Health and Safety at Work Book, which is the text book for students taking NEBOSH General Certificate.
This new qualification will give managers, supervisors and HR personnel the skills and knowledge to tackle health and well-being at work. It will benefit organisations who are seeking to improve the efficiency, and morale of their workforce. It should be attended by General managers, supervisors, health and safety and HR personnel who have responsibility for, or involvement in, the health and well-being of employees as part of their day-to-day duties.
Environmental Management Certificate
This course is designed to provide a sound foundation in environmental management and should be attended by Managers, supervisors and employees who have responsibility for managing environment issues, as part of their day to day duties. The qualification focuses on UK law and environmental management systems.

Our results so far.........
General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
As of January 2013, 52 candidates in total gaining : 9 Distinctions, 24 Credits, 6 Passes and 13 Referals (2 have now retaken and are awaiting their results)
Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate
As of January 2013, 16 candidates in total gaining: 1 Distinction, 4 Credits, 5 Passes and 3 Referals. A further 3 candidates passed the Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate but in order to gain a grade will need to take NGC1 (paper 1 of 2 from the General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety)
Environmental Management Certificate
As of January 2013, 14 candidates in total gaining: 3 Distinction, 5 Credits, 5 Passes and 1 Referal.
