Accident Reporting

Target audience

All First Aiders and Health and Safety Co-ordinators who are likely to attend an accident and complete the HS1 forms.

Aims of the workshop

To enable staff to understand and appreciate the importance of the University’s Accident Reporting procedures.  To ensure accurate completion of the necessary forms.

Learning outcomes

• Have an appreciation of the legal responsibilities relating to accident reporting.

• Be aware of the causes of accidents at work.

• Be able to assist in an investigation of an accident or incident.

• Have the knowledge to make recommendations for the prevention or reduction of accidents.

• Understand the requirement of Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).

Other staff development opportunities relevant to this topic

Manual Handling – particularly useful for staff in Caretaking and Library Services roles but may be relevant to any member of staff. 
Working at Height – for staff routinely required to work off ladders etc. 
Health and Safety on Field Trips and Educational Visits – targeted at academic and support staff who are or will be involved in organising and/or leading field trips. 
Portable Appliance Testing – for staff in technical roles.
