Target audience

All Estates and Campus Services staff who work with hazardous substances or in an environment where they are used

Aims of the workshop

This workshop will give participants an understanding of:
The risks associated with hazardous chemicals and products and formulations that contain hazardous chemicals.
Routes of entry.
Control measures that can be used to eliminate or prevent exposure to hazardous substances.
The importance of COSHH assessments.
There will be a practical element to this course.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending participants will be able:
To understand the risks posed by hazardous substances.
To recognise how the physical form of a substance can affect its route of entry into the body and consequently its site of action.
To use information sources such as material safety data sheets.
To select and use appropriate control measures to prevent exposure to hazardous substances, including personal protective equipment.
Be able to interpret a COSHH assessment.
