Health and Safety on Field Trips and Educational Visits

Target audience

Academic and support staff who are or will be involved in organising and/or leading Field Work in the UK or overseas.

Aims of the workshop

This workshop will give members of staff a greater understanding of their responsibilities when either organising or leading Field work.

This workshop will give participants an understanding of:
• The Insurance provided by the University relevant to Field Work including Emergency Assistance.
• Legal Liability arising out of Field Work.
• The importance of Risk Assessments and how to complete these.
• A demonstration of the Travel Security/Medical Assistance web-sites provided by our Insurers.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending, participants will understand the University Insurance arrangements for Field Work.  They will be able to complete a Field Work Risk Assessment/contingency plan and understand what to do in the event of an Emergency.
