Target audience

Health and Safety Co-ordinators, Managers and other staff interested in increasing their knowledge of Health and Safety Law.

Aims of the workshop

The workshop will give staff a greater understanding of Health and Safety Law and its impact in the workplace.

The workshop will give participants an understanding of:

  • Sources and types of Law (Criminal and Civil)
  • Legal Duties
  • Health and Safety Legislation (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Regulations)
  • Enforcement of Health and Safety Law
  • Penalties

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending, participants will:

  • Have a knowledge of the sources and types of Law enforced in the UK relevant to Health and Safety
  • Will understand the concepts of Absolute and Qualified Duties in relation to Health and Safety Legislation
  • Will have knowledge of the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated legislation, such as The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • An understanding of the responsibilities and powers of Enforcing Agencies
