Target Audience
Members of academic or support staff who will be taking on the role of Trained Interviewer
Outline
This event describes a systematic approach to the recruitment and selection of staff. It will develop participants' knowledge and skills at key stages in this process to ensure that they can conduct selection interviews in a fair and effective manner, or advise selection panels how to operate within University policy.
The aims of the workshop are to:
- Explore how to compile accurate job descriptions and person specifications;
- Identify and apply the principles of fair and effective shortlisting and interview assessment
- Guide participants in how to evaluate and record the evidence they gain about candidates abilities from the selection process;
- Clarify what documentation needs to be completed during the process and how best to do so.
Learning Outcomes
- Participants will be have all the essential knowledge needed to recruit and select staff in a fair and effective manner
- Be clear about University recruitment policy and the principles of good practice sufficient to advise selection panels.
Format
The workshop is interactive, including structured input, whole group discussion, small group work with feedback sessions.
