Management of Under-performance Procedure & Managing Sickness Absence Procedure: Part 2

Target Audience:

Line Managers/Supervisors.

Ideally, participants will have already attended the 'Guidance for Managers: Managing Sickness Absence Procedure: Part 1', briefing session.

Outline:

The workshop aims to ensure that participants understand the purpose of the Management of Under-performance Procedure / Managing Sickness Absence Procedure: Part 2.  When to use which procedure and to ensure managers are familiar with informal and formal stages, what they should do when concerns arise, what stage should be used within the procedures, who they need to inform/involve, when unions may be involved, who does what at each stage, what happens if they need to escalate issues up to higher management or use more formal levels of the procedure.  There will also be some case studies to work through.

The aims of the briefing session are:

To provide participants with:

  • An insight into the procedures and underpinning statutory requirements.
  • An understanding of their role and responsibilities within the procedures.
  • Are aware of the significance of the required preparation.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of attending participants will:

  • Understand the procedures.
  • Understand their role as may be required.
  • Be aware of possible problematic issues that may arise around using the procedure and be better equipped to deal with these constructively.

Pre-event Preparation

Attendees will have read and familiarised themselves with the Management of Under-performance Procedure and the FAQs / Managing Sickness Absence Procedure: Part 2 and the FAQs,  prior to attending as they will be heavily referred to throughout the session.

Format

Interactive event that will include briefings, case studies and small group work.
