Outline

This workshop will focus on the University's values of ethical and responsible behaviour and the promotion of dignity and respect at work. 

The aims of the workshop are to:

  • Help minimise bullying and harassment and engender a culture of dignity and respect;
  • Raise your awareness of the new policy; and
  • Develop your individual skills to tackle bullying and harassment issues.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session delegates will:

  • Have a greater understanding of what constitutes bullying and harassment.
  • Be clear on what are acceptable behaviours within a culture of dignity and respect.
  • Have a greater awareness and understanding of the University Policy.
  • Have developed a skill set for tackling bullying and harassment.  This skill set will also provide you with tools for handling other people management problems.
  • Know what to do when you discover, observe or deal with accusations of bullying or harassment.

Pre-event Preparation

Delegates are to be sent a copy of the new Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy to read before they attend the course.

Format

This is a 2 hour workshop which will be highly inter-active, with group work, case studies and practical exercises.

Presenter

Julia Carden; Carden Consulting

Julia is a HR Consultant specialising in developing leaders and managers.  Having spent 10 years in the Royal Navy she specialised in HR, she has since worked in both the public and private sectors.  Now specialising in assessment and development, Julia is currently working with all levels of management in a variety of organisations including BMW UK, ASDA and Schlumberger.  Julia passionately believes that leaders and managers drive and determine the culture they work within and it is their responsibility to make the university a great place to work.  Promoting dignity and respect focuses on the theme that we all have different perceptions, values and beliefs; remembering that “the map is not the territory”.
