Mental Health Awareness Week – 13 - 19 May 2013
The Mental Health Foundation’s annual campaign will this year focus on physical activity and exercise, highlighting the impact that they have on mental health and wellbeing. The Let's Get Physical booklet is available to download and is full of useful information.
“Research shows that exercise influences the release and uptake of chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. Staying active can lift your mood, reduce stress, help you deal with negative emotions and even help with anxiety and reduce the risk of depression and dementia.” Mental Health Foundation
Mental wellbeing is affected by many factors; It is important to feel positive about ourselves, to be resilient in the face of adversity, to connect with communities of which we are a part, exert control over our own life, and feel that we have a real purpose and are valued by others.
If you would like further support with regards to a mental health issue, either as an individual or line manager, you can contact the Occupational Health Service in confidence on ext 3187 or email occupationalhealth@port.ac.uk
