Information and links to the three pension schemes available to University employees, the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TP) and the National Health Service Pension Scheme (NHS).
The three main occupational pension schemes (TP, LGPS and NHS) provide death in service cover to members for three times their salary. In order to support staff who have decided to opt out of the occupational pension schemes, the University has put in place equivalent life insurance cover. Staff covered by this policy will be contacted in writing.
If you have opted out of one of the occupational pension schemes because you have reached the Lifetime Allowance, please refer to the Excepted Scheme Policy Schedule, Policy Wording and Policy Technical Guide. Please note, you will need to contact the HR department by emailing HREnquiries@port.ac.uk with a copy of the HMRC certificate to confirm Lifetime Allowance protection, before this cover can be provided.
Group Life cover is provided by the University on a discretionary basis. The provision of the cover will be reviewed on an annual basis.
The purpose of Recognition Awards is to recognise and award individuals and teams who have excelled in their performance by provision of a one-off cash sum which is paid within the employee’s salary payment. Guidance and form for completion.
Long Service Awards
The University recognises and rewards staff who have completed 25 and 40 years continuous service with the University. The award consists of three parts:
- A contribution by the University towards a gift of the individual’s choosing;
- An invitation for the individual and a guest to attend a reception and buffet lunch;
- A certificate recognising the long service presented by the Vice-Chancellor at the reception.
Shortly before the date on which 25 or 40 years service is completed, a letter is sent from Human Resources notifying the individual of the details of the award.
Continuous service includes service with Portsmouth Polytechnic and members of staff who transferred from Portsmouth College of Art, Design and Media and The Solent School of Nursing with no break in service.
