Profile

As Education Liaison and Outreach Project Officer (Post 16), I am part of the Education Liaison and Outreach team whose role is to promote higher education as an option for all. My role involves organising and taking part in both on and off-site activities such as taster days, residential experiences, summer schools, talks and workshops in schools and colleges, and working closely with the local community.

My previous roles within the University were as Careers Advisor and Library Assistant and it was whilst employed in these positions that I decided to go to University myself as a mature student. On graduating I worked with disadvantaged and homeless young people in the Portsmouth area, helping them to improve on their life skills and to encourage them into education, training or employment in order to live independently.  

My combined work experiences and my own personal experience of higher education has meant that I am well placed in my present role. Currently a major focus of my role is to raise aspirations and attainment in mathematics and I work extremely closely with the Mathematics Department and the Local School Improvement Service.

I really enjoy the variety and diversity that my job has to offer and especially enjoy working alongside our undergraduates who are excellent role models for both young people and the also those more mature who have never considered the idea of studying at higher education.
