Marketing and Communications

 

As Education Liaison and Outreach Project Officer (Post 16), Joyce is part of the Education Liaison and Outreach team whose role is to promote higher education as an option for all. 

 

Joyce’s role involves organising and assisting in both on and off-site activities such as taster days, talks and workshops in schools and colleges and attending various HE Fairs around the country.  This involves close liaison with academic and support staff and with various external contacts. 

 

Her previous roles within the University were as a Careers Adviser and Library Assistant and it was whilst employed in these positions that she decided to go to University herself as a mature student. 

 

On graduating, Joyce worked with disadvantaged and homeless young people in the Portsmouth area, helping them to improve on their life skills and to encourage them into education, training or employment in order to live independently.   

 

Joyce’s combined work experiences and her own personal experience of the benefits that higher education can bring has meant that she is well placed in her present role. Currently a major focus of her role is to work with those considered mature applicants who might be thinking of going to university, offering information, advice, support and encouragement.  

 

Joyce really enjoys the variety and diversity that her job has to offer and especially enjoys working alongside our undergraduates who are excellent role models for both the more mature and young people alike.
