Profile

My role is as an Education Liaison and Outreach Officer. The team is split into three sections - Juniors, 11-16 and post-16. I work predominantly within the 11-16 team. The team works with secondary schools on a local and national level, running workshops, given presentations and talks and attending careers events. We aim through all of our projects to raise aspirations and help young people make informed decisions about their future.

All our work comes under the banner of the University’s UP for It scheme. Through the club we produce materials such as a quarterly magazine that we all contribute articles for and the It’sUP2U guide. This was a project I coordinated in 2006, and has proved to be a great success with schools and universities around the country using copies for careers guidance. We are also redesigning the guide for specific areas of the country.

Prior to joining the University in 2004, I have had experience in many areas, including five years in the hospitality industry. Starting out in customer service, my role has developed into sales and marketing, hotel management and recruitment. My educational background is in performing arts and education studies, incorporating over a year working and teaching in schools. After having five years away from education, I am now putting the skills and knowledge I learnt at University to great use. To further inform my role, I am also a governor of a local secondary school.
