Professor Pal Ahluwalia
Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation

Pal is responsible for promoting a strong research and innovation culture across the University with continuous improvement in the volume, quality and impact of the University’s research and enterprise outputs and partnerships.

Pal was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Vice President of Education Arts and Social Sciences at the University of South Australia. His main research interests lie in the areas of African studies, social and cultural theory. He previously held professorial roles at University of California, and Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he was also the Director of the Centre for Post-Colonial Studies.

Chris Chang
Pro Vice-Chancellor Global Engagement

Chris is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of an ambitious Global Engagement strategy for the University, for extending our global partnerships and reach to make our high-quality brand of education even more accessible worldwide.

Before joining the University in September 2016, Chris was Pro Vice-Chancellor Corporate Marketing, International and Development Services at Anglia Ruskin University. He has over 20 years’ experience in the higher education sector and a background as a lawyer. He qualified as a barrister in 1986 and began his career working as an advocate and solicitor at the High Court of Malaya, advising large corporate clients.

Professor Paul Hayes
Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Student Experience

Paul is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of an ambitious education strategy for the University, promoting excellence in education provision and in the quality of the student experience.

Paul was Dean of the University’s Faculty of Science from 2008 to 2014, having previously held senior positions at the University of Bristol. He is a Marine Biologist by training and is recognised internationally for his research in the area of microbial ecology.

Mark Cooper
Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Partnerships)

Mark joined the University of Portsmouth in 2016. Previously, he was employed as Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Higher Education at Wiltshire College based at their Salisbury campus. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) he had strategic oversight of Higher Education, working with a range of partner universities in developing and maintaining provision. Mark is also an active QAA Reviewer and has carried out many HE in FE reviews since 2003. He gained his first degree from the University of Birmingham in 1995 and has since completed a PGCert in Staging Shakespeare at the University of Exeter before completing an MA in Leadership, Management & Professional Practice at the University of Chester in 2011.

Mark is a performing artist by training and worked professionally in the industry for a number of years before moving into the education sector and has worked at 3 further education colleges since 2001, each time with responsibility for Higher Education. Committed to education at all levels he has also been a governor at a secondary school academy in Fareham and South Wiltshire University Technical College in Salisbury.

Mark was appointed as Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Partnerships) at the University of Portsmouth. He is responsible for developing and enhancing links with schools and colleges to encourage progression routes into Higher Education, including areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Dr Harriet Dunbar-Morris
Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)

Harriet is responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership in the enhancement and evaluation of the student experience. She will be ensuring that the student voice is heard, and will facilitate partnership working, ensuring that student engagement is central to all of the University’s activities.

After completing her DPhil via the universities of Sussex and Toulouse, and following a postdoc in Psycholinguistics, Harriet returned from France to join first the Oxford Learning Institute, and then Wolfson College and Oxford's Department of Education as a Research Fellow. Post-Oxford, Harriet worked at UCAS, the 1994 Group, and the University of Bath in senior research and policy positions. Harriet’s most recent position was at the University of Bradford where she was a Director and the Strategic Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor.
