Academic Skills Unit

What we teach

Academic skills include:

  • Critical thinking and argumentative essay writing
  • ‘Academic’ writing, including clarity and grammatical accuracy, coherence, fluency and referencing
  • Planning and structuring different kinds of assignments, including essays, reports, dissertations, presentations and reflective assignments
  • Delivering effective presentations
  • Maximising learning from lectures and seminars
  • Efficient and effective reading and note-making
  • Organising study, including time and task management

We teach through one-to-one tutorials and group workshops and by co-teaching on courses.

Please note that we do not proofread students’ work.
