Profile

Frank Lyons has been developing work-based learning at the University of Portsmouth since 1990, including foundation, bachelors and masters degrees. This work was recognised with the award of a National Teaching Fellowship in 2003.

A lifelong learner at the University he taught sociology from 1968 to 1990 and before becoming Director of Foundation Direct in 2005 he was Associate Dean (Curriculum) in the Faculty of Technology.

Frank has provided consultation to many UK universities enabling them to establish their own work-based schemes and has become known internationally through conference papers in Australia, Thailand, South Africa and the USA. He was Visiting Fellow at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia in 2004 and will be returning as a Visiting Fellow at the Charles Darwin University in the summer of 2006.
