EU Students - Accommodation in Portsmouth
Students will be sent an accommodation application form when they accept their offer and go FIRM. The accommodation application form allows you to select either University-allocated accommodation (usually Halls of Residence) or Private Rented Accommodation. All new students in their first year of study at the University of Portsmouth are able to select and apply for a place in Halls of Residence. If you select Private Rented Accommodation, information on house hunting will be sent to you.
Private Rented Accommodation
The majority of EU students at the University of Portsmouth live in private rented accommodation (shared houses or flats) within walking distance of the University campus.
This is a great way to form close friendships with other students or to guarantee living with a friend from your home country. Private accommodation is good value for money and often in quiet locations with outdoor space, which is great in the warmer months.
You can find private rented accommodation by attending one of our 'Secure a Home' events run by the Student Housing Office from July to September every year. During the event you will receive information and advice about finding and living in private accommodation and will have the opportunity to visit numerous properties before making your choice. Student Housing also hold regular house-hunting drop-in sessions every Friday, from mid-July until the end of August at a dedicated venue.
If you are starting your studies here in February, you can contact our staff in the Student Housing Office, who will be able to provide you with details of all the houses and flats currently available.

Halls of Residence
New full time EU students applying for September entry are eligible to apply for University-allocated accommodation (Halls of Residence) when they have firmly accepted an offer to study at the University (go FIRM). It is important to do this as soon as possible as places in our Halls of Residence are allocated in line with Faculty quotas based on the order of receipt of the accommodation application forms by the Student Housing Office.
We have ten Halls of Residence grouped in three bases: Guildhall Halls, Langstone Student Village and Rees/Burrell. We offer many different styles of room with catered and self-catered options. Fees vary depending on the hall. All rooms have phone lines that allow free internal calls and voicemail facility. Media including broadband internet access, internet telephone and digital television services (tv license required) are also provided in all rooms and are included in the hall fees.
Accommodation for postgraduate students only and female only flats are available. Please note that the occupancy period for Halls of Residence is 37 weeks (whole academic year) unless otherwise stated. Students who have requested a place in Halls of Residence but are unsuccessful will be sent an invitation to attend our housing hunting events 'Secure a Home' held from July to September.
