Scholarships and bursaries
Students from Brazil are eligible to receive our PassPort Bursary. The PassPort Bursary gives privately-funded students a 10% tuition fee reduction for their first year of study at Portsmouth. It applies to all degree courses with fees of £10,500 and above. You do not need to apply for the PassPort Bursary - eligible applicants will be awarded automatically.
Entry requirements
We are happy to consider overseas applications on a case by case basis. As a general guide:
Foundation:
Students taking the Bachillerato (Secondary School Certificates) such as Titulo de Bachiller Académico or Titulo de Bachiller Técnico, will usually be required to do a Foundation Year before beginning their undergraduate studies. We offer an Engineering and Technology Foundation Year in our Faculty of Technology. On successful completion of this foundation year, students can transfer to one of a wide range of engineering and technology degrees. Foundation programmes in all other subjects are delivered by our pathway provider International College Portsmouth (ICP):

Undergraduate
The undergraduate minimum entry requirements for students with Brazilian qualifications are:
- Students who have completed Certificado de Ensino Medio plus one year at a recognised university in Brazil will be exempt from taking a Foundation Year and considered for admission onto year1 of a Bachelors degree if relevant subjects have been studied and strong grades achieved, or
- Students who have completed a recognised Foundation Year, or
- Good UK A-level Grades (This will be based on UCAS tariff point equivalency, including subject specific requirements where appropriate), or
- Between 24 and 31 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB), depending on the specific degree course being applied for
Postgraduate
- Applicants with Licenciado (4 years of study), a Bacharel or Titulo Profesional (Bachelors degree standard - 4 years or more) from a recognised higher education institution will be considered for Masters entry. Typical minimum GPA requirements from 2.8 on a scale of 1-4, or 7 on a scale of 1-10, or
- Degrees from Federal Universities, Catholic Universities and certain State Universities - Courses rated A+B, or
- A recognised Pre-Masters course
Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and students may be admitted to a Masters programme with a lower level degree if they have work experience relevant to the degree applied for. Pre-master programmes are available at International College Portsmouth (ICP) for a number of courses.
For entry onto our MBA, students will also need at least 3 years relevant work experience after graduation in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Work experience is also required for several other postgraduate courses and many courses will require you to have studied relevant subjects. Please see our full course list for more details.
Research
Holders of a Master degree with a good GPA will be considered for PhD study upon submission of a research proposal. Please visit our Graduate School pages for information on specific areas of research.
English Language requirements:
We accept IELTS, TOEFL, IGCSE and several other certificates. The required score will depend on your level of entry and your chosen course. Please visit English language requirements for more details. We offer Pre-sessional English language programmes for applicants who do not yet meet the required English level for entry onto our degree courses.

Science without Borders
The University of Portsmouth is one of the 70 selected universities that offers the opportunity to receive a scholarship for one year of an Undergraduate course, a one year Sandwich PhD or a full PhD programme. We have already welcomed our first cohort from Science without Borders this September 2012.

English Requirements
The general English requirement for most Undergraduate studies is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent with no component lower than 5.5, although some courses require 6.5 with no components lower than 6.0.
For PhD, the English requirement is IELTS 6.5 or equivalent with no component lower than 6.0.
SWB will be offering extra scholarship for Pre-sessional English for a duration of 3–6 months. Please check Science without Borders UK or email sciencewithoutborders@international.ac.uk for more details.
