Entry requirements
We are happy to consider overseas applications on a case by case basis. As a general guide:
Foundation:
Successful completion of Adadiyah (Certificate of Preparatory Education / Sixth Form Baccalaureat) with good grades will be considered.
Undergraduate:
Generally, students with a Bachelor's Degree from a recognised university in Iraq may be considered for 2nd year or 3rd year entry to a relevant undergradaute programme.
A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate are also accepted. Students with a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher Diploma can be considered for advanced entry onto a relevant undergraduate degree programme.
Postgraduate:
A Bachelor's Degree from a recognised university in Iraq with very good grades may be considered for postgraduate study. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A good Masters from a recognised university in Iraq will also be considered for postgraduate study.
For entry onto our MBA International, students will also need at least 3 years relevant work experience after graduation in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Work experience is also required for several other postgraduate courses and many courses will require you to have studied relevant subjects. Please see our full course list for more details.
PhD:
Students holding a good Masters Degree will be considered for PhD study upon submission of a research proposal. Please visit our Graduate School pages for information on specific areas of research.
English Language requirements:
We accept IELTS, TOEFL, IGCSE and several other certificates. The required score will depend on your level of entry and your chosen course. Please visit English language requirements for more details. We offer Pre-sessional English language programmes for applicants who do not yet meet the required English level for entry onto our degree courses.
Partnerships in Iraq
The University of Portsmouth has established progression agreements with the University of Iraq, Basra and the Iraq Ministry of Communications. Students coming to the University of Portsmouth under these agreements tend to go to the Faculty of Technology to study:
- BEng (Hons) Communications Engineering (final year)
- BEng (Hons) Computer Engineering (final year)
- MSc Communication Network Planning and Management
- MSc Communication Systems Engineering
- MSc Computer Network Administration and Management
