Some countries eligible for the GOAL Award do not appear on the above list. To check if your nationality is eligible, please contact the International Office for clarification.
The GOAL Award is available to self-funding, undergraduate students studying on a full-time course with annual fees of £10000 or above and all full-time postgraduate taught and research students. The award is ONLY for international (non-EU) students commencing courses from September 2012 for the first year of study at Portsmouth (and is not available to students who have previously undertaken other courses here).
The GOAL Award takes the form of a 10% fee reduction, effective at the time of registration and will only apply to your first year of study. It cannot be combined with any other scholarship, discount or fee offer, except the 2% 'prompt payment discount' for students paying their fees in full at the start of the academic session.
You do not need to apply for the Award - eligible applicants will be awarded automatically. The discounted fee will be stated on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS). The CAS is the final document you receive when you have an unconditional offer to study at the University of Portsmouth and have paid your deposit.
All tuition fees are subject to approval.
Please note the following:
- only applicants who have been assessed as overseas students for tuition fee purposes can access this award. Eligibility is determined by nationality - not country of domicile
- Students who receive the MBA Scholarship will not be eligible for the GOAL Award
- the GOAL Award will not be available to students pursuing, withdrawing or transferring from courses at International College Portsmouth (ICP)
Malaysia-Portsmouth Scholarship (MPS)
The MPS is a new scholarship introduced in 2010 which is designed to enable students from Malaysia to study at Portsmouth at discounted fee rates. It recognises the strong links which exist between Malaysia and the University of Portsmouth and marks the first decade of SEARO (South East Asia Regional Office) in Kuala Lumpur.
Under the MPS, privately-funded students will receive a 10% fee reduction for the first year of study only. The MPS applies to all degree courses with fees of £10000 and above. The MPS cannot be combined with any other University discount or scholarship scheme, except the 2% 'prompt payment discount'.
You do not need to apply for the MPS - eligible applicants will be awarded automatically. The discounted fee will be stated on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS). The CAS is the final document you receive when you have an unconditional offer to study at the University of Portsmouth and have paid your deposit.
Please note the following:
- Students who receive the MBA Scholarship will not be eligible for the MPS
- the MPS will not be available to students pursuing, withdrawing or transferring from courses at International College Portsmouth (ICP)

British Government Awards
The British Government offer a limited number of awards to overseas students through the British Council. These should initially be applied for through British Council Offices in the student's own country. It should be noted that most of the awards are aimed at postgraduate study and are limited in number. Students may need to apply for an award up to one year in advance as scholarships are highly sought after.
Students are advised to check the conditions of any award they receive and to consult with the British Council before coming to the UK as to the current cost of living in the UK.
For further information check the British Council funding web site.
