FAQs

What are the Music Electives?

Dramatic and Musical Society

All students within the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCi) have to take 20 credits of electives as part of the 360 required for an undergraduate degree. The idea is to broaden ones experience, and so, regardless of your musical ability, students within the CCi Faculty can sign up for a 20-credit music elective at level 5. For further details please email music@port.ac.uk or call 023 9284 3023.

How can I find out more about music activities at the University?

The best way is to visit the Music Department in the Wiltshire Building, but you can also ring 023 9284 3023 or email music@port.ac.uk.

Where are the music office and practice rooms?

All the main music facilities are located in the Wiltshire Building (close to the Students' Union).

Can I borrow an instrument?

Orchestra

Some instruments are available for hire from the music office. If a suitable instrument is not available, the department will be able to make alternative suggestions.

Are instrument or voice lessons available?

The University does not usually pay for tuition (the exception being those students who take music electives - see above), but we do have a list of private teachers and can help with practice facilities etc. In the Music Department there are notice boards where tuition is advertised and students may add notices here for tuition required. For further assistance, please contact the Director of Music.

How can I start a group or find other musicians with similar interests?

Use the notice boards in the Music Department or contact the Director of Music.
