BREAKING NEWS - Sports facility investment

Today, Monday 8th April 2013, it has been announced that the Department of Sport & Recreation have been given the go ahead to develop £1million of sports facilities at the Langstone campus.

This includes a full size 3G pitch for football and rugby, spectator viewing between the new pitch and the existing hockey pitch, 2 new 5 aside football cages, 2 resrufaced netball pitches, a large hard surfaced warm up area and the full installation of drainage, levelling and re trufing of the 1st IX football pitch.

The work will be undertaken by the company who resurfaced our hockey pitch 18 months ago, dutch firm GreenFields. Work will begin at the end of April and continue until the end of August 2013.

The 3G pitch will be suitable to play both full size rugby and football matches on. It will be the same type of surface that Premiership Rugby club Saracens use in their stadium and the Russian Luzniki stadium where Manchester United beat Chelsea in the 2008 champions league final. Greenfields were the first company in the world to install a fully compliant IRB and FIFA certified dual use synthetic pitch in 2012 at Maidenhead Rugby Club.
