Staff deduction scheme

University staff (not family members) with permanent contracts can take part in the staff deduction scheme at any time while they work for the University. The scheme allows membership fees to be paid directly from payroll on a monthly basis. Staff with casual contracts cannot join the scheme.

The staff deduction scheme allows you to sign up for a full or off-peak membership, without need to reapply or renew every year. Deductions continue from wages and charges are automatically updated (with prior notification) each year.

The scheme is a 12 month minimum contract and can only be cancelled if employment at the University ceases or due to medical reasons, which must be supported by a medical note. There may be the option to freeze or suspend membership dependent on circumstances.

How much is it?

A one-off set up fee of £10 (irrespective of membership type) is payable on joining. Payroll number is required. If you are not a Sports Centre member, you will be required to attend a sports induction (£5).

• Full membership: £17 per month x 12 months
• Off-peak membership: £12 per month x 12 months

You can also take out a monthly full £30 or off-peak £25 membership, receiving the same benefits as our longer memberships except only for one month.

Full and off-peak membership options include Sports Centre usage, fitness classes and racket sports. Full members have unlimited access and off-peak members are permitted to use the facilities between 7:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday (term time), anytime at weekends (10:00am-5:00pm) and throughout vacation (8:00am-8:00pm Monday-Friday only)

Those who only wish to use the shower/changing facilities must purchase a standard staff membership (£30 for 12 months) and report to reception on arrival of each visit to record their attendance. Please note this is not needed if you have a full or off peak membership. 

Special offer for new members of staff

New members of staff to the University will receive an email from staffdeduction@port.ac.uk introducing them to the Sport and Recreation Department should they wish to join the staff deduction scheme they will be entitled to a free gym induction, no joining fee and one months free usage. Just bring your staff card, payroll number and copy of 'new starters' email to St Paul's Sports Centre or Spinnaker Sports Centre to join.
