Sport and Recreation

Intramural sport

Why not join more than 2,000 other students and staff who take part in our fun, yet competitive, intramural sport leagues every week and one-off sports tournaments. Intramural sport is essentially playing sport for fun. It encourages you to join with friends and enter teams into the various sports we have available, from football to dodgeball.

If you are a beginner, returning to sport or just want to play recreationally, intramural sport is the ideal environment for you to develop your skills and build the confidence you need to take the next step and represent the University! You can participate in any of the following Intramural sports:

  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Dodgeball
  • Futsal
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • Rugby
  • Softball
  • Squash
  • Volleyball
  • 5 a-side football
  • 6 a-side football
  • 11 a-side football

The Department of Sport and Recreation have been awarded £140,000 from Sport England to help increase participation and the funding will focus on driving forward the quality of the intramural programme giving you the best experience possible. So there really is no better time than now to get involved.

How to form a team

Why not get a team together from your department, hall or just with a group of friends at the University and enter a league or tournament? You can enter a team at any point during the year, as long as it is before the sign-up deadline for that sport. However, entry does operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so sign-up early.

If you need help with getting a team together to enter or would like to join an existing team after the entry deadline, please email ims@port.ac.uk including your name, sport you are interested in, and the name of your department and/or hall of residence.

NEW Online registration and payment

Registration and payment for our intramural sport leagues and tournaments is now available online through Sportalise

Register now

Simply click ‘sign up’ on the league or tournament you would like to enter, and follow the simple registration and payment process.

After you have registered online, you will receive a confirmation email which will invite you to attend a captains meeting. It is essential that at least one member of your team MUST attend the captains meeting.
