University of Portsmouth CFC

The Department of Sport and Recreation coordinates the delivery of the University weekend football programmes. Our aim is to support our students in finding the right balance of work/study/play. Our player backgrounds vary but many have experienced the professional club environment at various levels and have now decided to pursue higher education.

The weekend football teams are an intrinsic part of our BUCS football teams, helping drive forward the quality and professionalism across the board. Both our Men's and Women's teams play throughout the year in the national FA football pyramid. Our Women's BUCS team have played in the BUCS Premier League for the last two years and our Men's BUCS 1st Team beat Lincoln to win the Mars BUCS Football Championship in 2011.

After three successive promotions in three years, our Women's 1st Team now compete in the 3rd Tier of the National League, the South West Combination 1st Division, making them the second highest university team behind Loughborough. Our Men's Team play in the Hampshire Premier League.

This is an intense programme with pre-season starting in August with well over 50 fixtures including those over the Christmas and Easter periods. You need to be aware of the commitment required to be part of this programme but the experience it provides makes it worthwhile for those who choose University of Portsmouth CFC.
